The remarkable seismic performance of our reinforced concrete construction system: A robust solution against the earthquakes that have impacted the West!

Consequence of an earthquake

On June 16th, western France was struck by an earthquake, causing significant damage estimated at approximately 150 to 200 million euros, according to Saretec, an insurance appraisal firm. Over 5,000 buildings were affected by the earthquake, resulting in plaster cracks and falling objects. Such increasingly frequent events raise questions about the anti-seismic performance of buildings. Safety and resistance to earthquakes are becoming increasingly important considerations when designing and constructing buildings.

Our construction system, composed of reinforced concrete, offers a solid and reliable solution for addressing these seismic risks.

The inherent strength of reinforced concrete

Reinforced concrete is a construction material that combines concrete and steel, two materials with complementary properties. Our insulating formwork blocks contain a patented metal reinforcement molded into the walls. These spacers ensure the solidity of our walls and prevent any separation of the insulating panels over time. By integrating the metal reinforcement directly into the walls, a solid and homogeneous monolithic structure is created. This acts as a damping mechanism, thereby reducing vibrations and minimizing potential structural damage.

Concrete offers excellent compressive strength, while steel exhibits high tensile strength. Consequently, by combining these two materials, we achieve a structure that is extremely resistant to seismic forces.

Adaptability to seismic movements

One of the key characteristics of reinforced concrete is its ability to absorb and dissipate the energy generated by earthquakes. When an earthquake occurs, reinforced concrete buildings can flex and deform elastically, which reduces the amplitude of movements, minimizes structural damage, and can prevent collapse. Thus, building occupants are protected and overall safety is enhanced.

A sustainable construction system

By combining appropriate seismic design with regular monitoring and maintenance, reinforced concrete structures can offer lasting protection against earthquakes, ensuring occupant safety and preserving property.
