Frequently Asked Questions on Passive Construction
A Questions and Answers (FAQ) page to learn everything about passive construction, understand the technical standards and current regulations in France. Discover the procedures and steps to follow to build your home with EUROMAC2.
What is an insulating formwork block?
The EUROMAC2 range of formwork blocks consists of two expanded polystyrene (EPS) panels: an inner panel with a thickness of 4.5 cm and an outer panel ranging from 4.5 to 24.5 cm, between which a concrete wall (16 to 21 cm) will be poured. This structure insulates the concrete wall to ensure excellent thermal performance for the entire building.
To whom should I send my plans?
The "Request a Quote" form allows you to submit the plans for your passive house or any other documents. Your designs will be analyzed and optimized by our engineering team to ensure your home achieves the best possible thermal performance.
Who will carry out the work?
For over 40 years, the EUROMAC2 group has established a network of reputable companies across the national territory. This network includes design offices, architects, masons, property developers, and thermal engineers who have undergone comprehensive training in passive construction. Site supervision will be provided by an EUROMAC2 technician to ensure the smooth progress of the work. This technician will be your single point of contact throughout the entire construction phase.
What are the construction timelines?
The use of EUROMAC2 materials is particularly straightforward; the formwork blocks are lightweight and easy to handle. On a typical construction site, each level can be erected in just one week with a small team of two people.
Who decides which materials to use?
The choice of materials will be determined by several criteria: the geographical location of your construction site, the climate, the plans, the desired performance level, and your budget. EUROMAC2 will propose aesthetic and technical solutions – particularly to optimize your home's thermal performance – but ultimately, the client always makes the final decision!
Can I customize my home?
The construction process for an EUROMAC2 home relies on the use of insulated formwork blocks. Beyond that, there are no restrictions on adapting a passive house design to meet your needs! Your EUROMAC2 home can feature classic or contemporary architecture; you can build a single-story home or a multi-level home, clad it with wood siding, stone siding, or simple stucco—anything is possible. From the outside, nothing distinguishes one EUROMAC2 home from another! The difference lies in comfort, thermal performance, and reduced heating (or cooling) costs.
Who handles the administrative procedures?
Whether it's a traditional or a passive construction, the administrative procedures are identical. The EUROMAC2 design office handles all formalities on your behalf: building permits, certifications from reference bodies (RT2012), etc.
